OPST SWIM PROGRAMS

We offer three seasons of competitive swimming throughout the year:

Short Course Season – September to March (USA Swimming)

Long Course Season – April to July (USA Swimming)

Summer Swim Season – late May to July (DSA)

USA SWIMMING

USA Swimming is the National Governing Body for the sport of swimming in the United States. They promote the culture of swimming by creating safe and healthy opportunities for athletes and coaches of all backgrounds to participate and advance in the sport through clubs, events, and education. Membership is comprised of swimmers of every age and ability, all the way up to the Olympic Team, as well as coaches, officials, and volunteers.

Within USA Swimming there are Local Swim Committees (LSCs) that are delegated certain governing and supervisory responsibilities within the geographic boundaries designated by USA Swimming. OPST is part of the Maryland Swimming LSC.

  • Short Course Season (September to March) - Meets take place in 25 yard pools.  Most meets involve travel across the Bay Bridge with one or two locally on the eastern shore. Meets are typically once a month, with Championship meets taking place in March.
  • Long Course Season (April to July) - Meets take place in 50 meter pools. All meets are across the bridge. Meets are typically once a month for our team in May, June, and July, with Championship meets in late July.

SUMMER SWIM

Delmarva Swim Association (DSA) governs our summer league. Summer swim is where many swimmers start out, learn to love the sport, and perhaps choose to pursue the sport year-round.

  • Summer Season (late May to July) - Meets are hosted in June & July, typically on Monday and Thursday evenings with a Championship qualifying meet at the end of July.  Meets take in 25 yard pools (some 25 meter), and there are Home and Away meets.  Home meets are held at the Ocean Pines Swim & Racquet Club pool and Away meets are at locations on the eastern shore.
